february

Well, February's almost gone so I think I'm due for an update. The painting a day thing has kind of died. I made it nearly a month but I'm two weeks behind now and don't see myself catching up. Maybe I'll make it a painting a week and give myself a bit more time to work on each. It was a fun little exercise and I'm thinking about turning some of my suited monsters into toys.

On a different note, I set up an etsy shop for all my odds and ends. Right now it's just leftover show pieces but I'll add random little figures now and again. Here's the link

The motorbot shop

Also check out Austinhandmade for a few other pieces of mine. They have a lot of cool stuff by local artists and I feel honored to be one of the artists they chose to feature.

I'll try to update again sooner. Keep an eye on my flickr. There's a lot of stuff on the way

a painting a day

you porbably don't know this but i'm trained as a painter. that's what i studied at school and what i got a degree in. i've been painting since i was 10 or so, but once i discovered toys a few years ago, i switched over to 3d art. i've done a few painted things here and there but nothing substantial.

so i've decided that i need to start painting again, and the way i intend to do that is by doing a painting a day. i'm limiting myslef to half an hour for each one. it's more an exercise in teaching myself how and what to paint again. they won't be planned out, i'll just sit down and whatever happens happens. they're all done with corel and maybe at the end of it i'll compile them into a book, assuming they don't all suck.

anyway, here's the first one, a zombie ape

testing

Just testing the iblog app on my phone.

I wish you could post pictures with it. Supposedly they are adding that feature soon. We'll see when "soon" is I guess

I bought a painting app too. I posted a couple of quick ones on my flickr. I have some big painting plans for 2009. I'll post details this week

happy new year

jeez, i am not good at updating this thing. for those who haven't figured it out, and hopefully the two of you that read this are smarter than that, anything new i finish goes onto my flickr. if you're waiting for updates here, then expect to wait a little while.

i've been busy as ever lately and it seems i'll stay that way for a while, not that i'm complaining. i'm grateful to everyone who contacts me and commissions a piece. you're all awesome for making it possible for me to do something i like.

i posted a little year in review thread over on the kidrobot forums. you can take a gander at it here
http://forums.kidrobot.com/viewtopic.php?t=124454&start=0

i managed to make somewhere near 90 individual customs last year, and if you count each of the jamungo mummies it puts it around 150. so i guess i have a new goal for 2009. keep an eye on that thread because i have a few more toys that are part of 2008 that i stil need to post. i just need to get good pictures taken.

i have the little blogger app on my iphone, so maybe i can do a better job of posting updates. 2009 will hopefully be good. i have a few things planned. original figures will materialize in some form, even if i have to make them myself. also i have a few 1/6th scale figures lying around that i plan on doing something with. the warrior universe will expand, and the maw will continue to develop. the wood will stick around in some form as will the metal. there will be more food and more slightly dissected things. hopefully i can finish the books i started last year, and maybe finally i can make it to comic con.

anyway, thanks for checking in.

i hope the both of you have a good 09.
